Looking for inspiration in London

Our founder, John Chater, travelled back to London looking for some inspiration as we continue to get back to some form of 'normal'.

It's been nearly 6 months since I had gotten myself over to the Ceramics design centre of the UK, Clerkenwell, and it was high time I reconnected with the aim of seeing what's new and where the trends seem to be taking us for 2022.

A visit to the showrooms of the main A&D specialists highlighted some new colourways and designs but I was drawn to the 80 year old designs Gio Ponti produced in ceramics for the Hotel Parco dei Principi, in Sorrento, a building which he also designed.

These hand painted geometrics and patterns seem to transcend the better part of century since they were created and would look beautiful in a contemporary kitchen or bathroom.

I also found myself back amongst Terracotta and the simplicity it brings to a room. 'Pared back' also has its place in a compelling range that customers want.

The day ultimately reminded me that in order to keep ceramic design and our industry vibrant we need to be bolder in the creativity we bring to the market. I look at other in-home categories and the stunning work people like Timorous Beasties are doing (www.timorousbeasties.com) and you can see where the cutting edge is!

We aim to help people make amazing spaces in their homes using tiles and giving them beautiful designs to use is our goal. As part of our continued expansion, I can confirm we are working on a major project with an iconic British interiors brand that will be landing in the market Early 2022!

More soon!

No visit to Clerkenwell is complete with out a quick walk by the gorgeous building that is 'A.T. Watkinson the Jewellers' at the bottom of Goswell Road - a real piece of retail Victoriana.

Finally, an army marches on its stomach and I'm no different, so it was off to Brick Lane and a British, if not Global, institution........
